Lord Malleus, are you returning to the dormitory now?

What a coincidence meeting you here, Silver.
I am just about to begin activities for my research club.
|
Silver
Silver

Research club? The club you made was the...

"Gargoyle Research Club. Although, the activities aren't all that involved.
At the moment, they do not differ all that much from a walk. I just take my time on my own.

I see, so you observe the gargoyles as you go around on your walk.

Care to join me to kill time? I'll show you the gargoyle statues around campus.

Yessir. Allow me to accompany you.

Very well. Let us head directly to the first gargoyle on our trip.

First for us to observe is here at the entrance to the east building. I assume you can see the gargoyle above the gate.
These crow themed gargoyles are actually quite the rarity. I have never seen another like this one myself.
It was carved to appear as if it was about to take flight. It was likely made by the hands of a famous craftsman.

A crow gargoyle?
Were gargoyles not something made that is supposed to be made in the shape of imps and the like?
|
Malleus
Malleus
|
No. Not at all.
|
Silver
Silver
|
Eh? M-My deepest apologies. Have I said something to displease you?

I admit that monster-shaped gargoyles are common.
However, to assume that that means all gargoyles must take the shape of monsters is a rather shallow way of thinking.
There are plenty of imp gargoyles, but there are also crow gargoyles. And even gargoyles that resemble pigs.

F-Fascinating. I understand. I was ignorant about this subject.

This much is all common sense. Silver, you know there were gargoyles all over Briar Valley.
Try to remember the gargoyles of our homeland. There were a plethora that were based on animals.
|
Silver
Silver
|
There is much more to the subject of gargoyles than I would have ever thought.
...Oh! There's a crow statue on the side of the wall. So that means there's aother gargoyle there.

Silver.

Sir?

That is a grotesque, not a gargoyle.

Gargoyles are infrastructure, not decoration. They are there to direct dirty rain water away from the side of a building like a gutter would.
On the other hand, stone statues called grotesques take the shape of animals buut serve no further purpose than decoration.
They have absolutely no practical use.

I-Is that right...

Gargoyles are a boon to the castle, unlike some mere figure meant only to be looked at. They are in different dimensions.
What you have found is a grotesque. We are looking for gargoyles.
Do you understand?

I'm terribly sorry for my mix up. I'll be more careful going forward.

Malleus

As long as you understand.
Next, we shall go see the gargoyles on the main building.

Silver
Silver

That is were I met you earlier today, we're going all the way back to where we began?
|
Malleus
Malleus
|
Naturally. Otherwise we wouldn't observe them in the order they were created. We must adhere to the proper order.

Silver

Th-The proper...order?

Certain gargoyles of Night Raven College are newer depending on the building's history.
My guess is that they were added on one at a time after each building completed construction.
That means that if you follow the path of history as you observe the gargoyles, you can glimpse what it would have looked like in the past.
For example, this gargoyle...

What is it, Silver? Do you have a question about gargoyles?

Silver
Silver
|
Not a question, but... I have learned quite a bit by spending this day with you.
By spending time as part of the gargoyle research club, I feel that I have gotten to know you a bit better.
Please let me pick out a gargoyle that would match your room's decor sometime.

Unless it serves as a means to divert rain water, it is mere decoration and therefore a grotesque.
Do you need me to say it more than once to understand? Then allow me to go into detail. The origin of the word gargoyle is...
