Appellations

Idia Shroud is a third-year student and the head of Ignihyde, as well as Ortho's "older brother." He is shy and has a dark nature, not wanting to interact with people and staying in his dorm. However, it seems like things are different online.

(translated from the Japanese version by ame)

Appearance

Idia has fiery blue hair which flows down below his waist. He is tall and pale with yellow irises and blue shadow with blue lips. His eye bags and blue lips are natural and not achieved by make-up. He always has a shadow over his eyes. His eyebrows are also generally always worried. He has an attractive face but doesn't realize it.

His hair (which is fire, and so constantly swaying) is transparent at the tips. When his mood drops, the flames weaken. Conversely, when his mood is improved (for example, when he meets a strong energy, or when things go according to his plans), the flames get stronger. This is accompanied by an "evil grin," which he won't show to anybody except someone he is close with.[3]

Personality

Idia doesn't like being in places with many people around and so he doesn't go outside very often. His little brother tried many times to take him outside, but it didn't work. He doesn't talk much with his classmates or people from school, but things change when he talks about his hobby, or things he likes.

As acting captain of S.T.Y.X., he appears to be a reasonable figure in the organization since, unlike his parents, he's not strict and wants to get the work done as soon as possible. After the Charon division captured Yuu, Epel, and Rook, who discovered their hidden location, Idia orders the division to bring them to the Island of Woe alive since he would rather hear them out instead of killing them instantly.[4] According to him, if he wasn't in charge at the time, Yuu, Epel, and Rook would be dead.[5]

Skills and Magic

Idia is good at sketching people.[6]

Idia has been proficient at engineering since a very young age. He was hailed as a talented genius in this field even as a child, and was skilled enough to create the humanoid Ortho all by himself. All of Ortho's gears, save for Cerberus Gear (crafted by his mother and her team with the help of his stored data) and Ortho's self-crafted Fairy Gear were also crafted by him. He has also hacked into many devices, including a S.T.Y.X. satellite that was stationed on the Isle of Sages, for his own purposes. As a testament to his skills in this area, he was offered internship opportunities from many organisations, and he eventually accepted a software engineering internship with Olympos Inc., which is notoriously difficult to secure a job offer from, to fulfill his fourth year internship requirements sometime in spring, between the events of the cultural fair held in Book 5 and the events of Book 7. Idia has created multiple machines throughout the game, such as long-distance beanshooters for Beans Day, a flight device for Ortho Tsum, and a log chopping machine in Harveston for Marja.

As a Shroud, Idia bears a curse that consumes his magic if he does not have blot for it to consume.

Unique Magic

Idia's unique magic is called "Gate to Underworld" (開かれた冥界の扉(ゲート・トゥ・アンダーワールド), Gēto To~u Andāwārudo; lit. "Opened Gateway to the Underworld"). He can open and close the door to the “Underworld” in S.T.Y.X. Headquarters.

Trivia

  • He can talk straightly if he's playing with someone on the Internet.[7]
  • Idia has a sweet tooth and enjoys eating candy.[8]
  • He likes dogs but he cannot handle dog people, like Divus Crewel.[9]
  • Idia refers to himself using sessha (拙者 or せっしゃ), an archaic pronoun similar to "I" in the English language, which was historically used primarily by samurai. In modern Japanese, samurai speech is often associated with otaku subculture.
  • Idia has two imp plushies in his dorm room, both resembling Pain and Panic from Hercules.
  • In the early development of the game, Idia would be the youngest student of NRC with a "skipping grade 🆗" setting.[10]
