Sam is the proprietor of the campus store, Mr. S's Mystery Shop. The shop has a wide selection of products, ranging from food to magical implements. He may have a cheery disposition, but he also has a tendency to strongly nudge the students towards buying his strange curio.

Appearance
Sam is a lithe young man with magenta eyes, black-and-purple locs flipped over the right side of his head, and an undercut. He has white skeletal markings painted beneath his eyes, on his neck, on his chest, and on his forearms. There are also white rib markings on the bright purple vest he wears beneath his maroon blazer; this skeletal motif is complete with a small skull affixed to his hat.
On the side of his blazer, Sam wears a pin resembling the talisman Dr. Facilier uses to transform Prince Naveen into a frog.
He also wears a black apron, tied together with a black-and-white ribbon. He has a single pocket visible near his hip, which holds a green hamsa-type object inside.

- Sam is inspired by Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog.[2]
- He is named after Baron Samedi, a major loa of Haitian Vodou that Facilier himself was based on. Much like his inspiration, Sam's design reflects Baron Samedi's likeness.
- He's knowledgeable about spiritual things.
- The skull tattoo and markings on Sam's design are removed for the English localization.
- According to Azul, Sam has a wide network of business connections and can get his hands on any product.[3]
