The chapter starts off with Leona managing to win over the dorm leaders (except Idia who wanted Malleus out of the game) to have Malleus stay in Spelldrive tournament. Before the dorm leader meeting has been concluded, Vil notices they forgot to inform Malleus about the Dorm leader meeting again.

Meanwhile, Yuuka works out at Ramshackle for the next year's Spelldrive tournament a while Grim kept sulking about not entering this year. The Ramshackle ghosts offer Yuuka and Grim to teach him how Spelldrive works since they were competitors 90 years ago. This cheer Grim up as he wants to learn more about the game until Crowley interrupted their conversation to inform them of a serious matter. Crowley gives Yuuka and Grim an important request to find what causes potential competitors since there have been a number of injuries on the campus of late as a result of suspicious incidents. At first Grim, he refuses Crowley's offer to accept his request thinking they were just clumsy. Crowley manages to persuade him by offering a position in Spelldrive tournament which he quickly accept. Yuuka asked Crowley about the number of teams since they lack five members, and he replied he got it covered.

Grim and Yuuka proceed to ask the students who were caught in the incidents. They asked the student who fell down the stair and broke his left arm explains to them that as if their legs were moving on their own. The next victim was in Pomefiore dorm briefly explain that they had their hand burn from a cauldron in one of their classes. They continue to ask the other victims, but with no leads. As Yuuka and Grim took a short break, they unexpectedly encounter Ace to check up on them. Suddenly Deuce ran to them and reported to them that Trey fell down the stairs and hurt himself.

At Heartslabyul, Ace, Deuce, Grim, and Yuuka enter Trey's room with Cater by Trey's side and check on Trey if he is alright. He says he can’t enter the Spelldrive tournament since his leg is broken and he's going to be in clutches for a while longer. Sorry for Trey, Grim gave him a tuna can hoping he will feel better which Trey accepts. Cater feels disappointed that their star player is hurt and has to do tryout again. Riddle enters Trey's room and was surprised to see Ace, Deuce, Grim, and Yuuka. Worried, Riddle asks Trey if he needs anything to eat or drink, but Trey declines his offer and says he's fine. Riddle felt guilty that he’s the reason he got hurt.

In Riddle’s flashback shows the incident happens when as Riddle and Trey depart for some important task, Riddle‘s body suddenly moves on its own and fell down the stairs. Trey manages to pull him out to safety, but he ends up taking the fall and hurting his leg.

Back to the present, Riddle blames himself that Trey got hurt because of him, Trey doesn’t blame him and it was his own decision to save him. Cater take Ace and the others out of Trey’s room so he can rest from his injuries. At Heartslabyul Lounge where they have an important discussion the incidents that Riddle was investigating are the same thing Crowley informer Yuuka and Grim on how someone is targeting potential star players. They think the culprit did this to eliminate threats for upcoming tournaments. According to Riddle, he felt his body was moving on its own. Riddle alongside Cater, Ace, and Deuce decides to join Yuuka and Grim’s investigation. The start with their plan is to predict the culprit's next move. He explains his plan for example, by identifying and safeguarding the students most likely to be targeted next. If they should so happen to strike, they can quickly defend them and track down the perpetrator. When Ace asks Riddle how they will find the next target, Cater enters their conversation and answer that he has eyes on a few possible targets among their major contenders on his smartphone.

The first place to check was in Pomefiore dorm, where they spy on Vil and Rook teaching Epel the proper way to hold the cup of tea. Cater and Riddle explain about the third-year Rook Hut, who was an exceptional standout player in last year's tournament, but he's a bit odd. After they observed their conversation, they realize they aren't targeted due to the fact they mainly focus on beauty and elegance instead of practicing for the game.

The next target on Cater's list is the Leech brothers, second years Jade and Floyd. Ace, Deuce, and Grim comment on them that not only do they have the same face, but how huge they are and looked strong looking. Riddle explains their coordinated attacks are wicked strong. Ace asks Riddle if they should mark them, and he replies if he were the culprit, he would save them for last. Before Riddle could finish explaining why he doesn't want to be anywhere near them, especially Floyd, Floyd spotted them and calls Riddle, "Goldfish" before he asks if they are playing hide and seek. Riddle looks disturbed before he reminds Floyd not to call him weird names. Floyd says he likes calling him that since he's small, red, and looks like a goldfish. When Grim asks Floyd a weird, Floyd looks happy to see a talking cat. He grabs Grim by the neck and gleefully says him if he can squeeze him real tight, Terrifying Grim, he demands Floyd to let go of him. Jade joins in the conversation and thinks Riddle's objective is to do a little reconnaissance for the tournament. When Cater tries to explain to Jade saying it's a super valid reason behind it, but he and his twin can't just shrug off this little espionage attempt. In Grim's inner thoughts, he senses something dangerous toward them even though acts calm, there's ain't a smile in his eyes. Everyone retreats, but Floyd chases after them thinking they are playing a game.

After they manage to lose Floyd, Grim questions the twins and their problems, Cater comments if he had to go after those two, he'd be crazy scared about the blowback. After the short conversation, both Cater and Riddle realize how is getting late, so he suggests everyone make the next one on the list, the last one for the day. However, Riddle can't go with them since he has to follow the Queen of Hearts' rules, "One mustn't play croquet in the garden after 5:00 P.M.". Grim gets annoyed that Riddle still hasn't changed at all. Riddle's embarrassment claims he becomes more lenient when it comes to rules. Cater says to Riddle that he'll loosen up way more than before. Cater adds that it is one of Riddle best qualities is that dedication.

The chapter ends where the last one on his list was a student from Savanaclaw, a first-year named Jack Howl.
