Realizing they have no choice but to fight, Deuce casts an ice spell. But it completely swerves right past Floyd. Ace angrily criticizes him and gives it a shot, but the same thing happens, and then again when Jack tries. He can tell something is amiss and earns praise from the twins before Floyd reveals that its because of his unique magic, "Bind the Heart". It keeps spells from hitting him directly by interfering from another direction. Grim complains that they're cheating. Jade gently chastises his brother for talking about his unique magic so openly, but Floyd doesn't think it will help them any. Jade agrees, just glad that he's in top form today given the nature of how well his magic works based on his mood at the time. Suddenly, Floyd zooms over to Yuuta and scares him by threatening to squeeze them with his tail fin unless they leave. Yuuta immediately calls a retreat and the five feverishly swim away. Before they go, Jade tells them that they will be awaiting their next visit.
Once they reach the Hall of Mirrors the group take a moment to catch their breath. Nobody got hurt, but they are distraught over what they learned. It's going to make things harder for them. Grim starts to worry over Ramshackle Dorm when Deuce suggests that they come up with a new strategy. As evening approaches, Yuuta, Grim and Jack return to Savanaclaw and inform Leona and Ruggie of what happened over dinner. Leona insults their lack of intelligence and Grim angrily tells him off, reminding him of what he said earlier. Leona clarifies that he never told them to go into the ocean, he just told them to make use of what little they had and do something. Jack goes on to ask if they knew about the twins' true forms. Ruggie recalls how he found out last year during a joint-swim class he took with Floyd. Jack remarks that they should have told them then, but Leona states that it was their own fault for not gathering intel beforehand. If they had asked him then he would have been more than happy to share it with them. Jack then asks if this was what Azul planned from the beginning, and Ruggie brings up that the Leech twins are well-known for being the ones who collect the collateral and compensation from the people under contract with Azul. They interfere with people trying to fulfill the terms of the contract.
By now, Grim and Yuuta are beginning to feel hopeless and Leona goes deep into thought. He then tells Yuuta that Azul's unique magic is "It's a Deal". Sign a special contract and he can take one skill from you. But if you breach the terms of the contract, then you are forced to comply to his every demand. Ruggie remarks that spells with tricky activation's are especially potent. This causes Jack to recall the amazing things they saw Azul do the other day, leading Ruggie to suggest that he probably swiped them from other people as collateral. Jack angrily declares that Azul a fraud; only for Ruggie to reason that he's wrong. His unique magic is high-leveled, a fraud couldn't perform something like it. Leona admits that he hasn't put up an ability for collateral, so he doesn't really get how it works. Yuuta goes on to ask what he did use in that case, but Leona doesn't want to talk about it. At any rate, the deal lasts as long as the contract itself, which is why he operates so slyly. When he gets them signed they're under terms that can't be met. The best way to beat Azul is to not sign a contract to begin with.
Grim starts to panic and Yuuta expresses concern, causing Leona to insult them once more. They need to use their minds if they want to beat someone stronger than them. If he was in their shoes, he would try to determine the best way of destroying the contract itself. Grim recalls when he tried that the other day and tells them that it is invincible. Ruggie asks why they believed Azul when he said that the contract is "completely unbreakable", then he suggests that he could have been making the whole thing up. Yuuta and Jack are stunned by this revelation as Leona points out that all magic has a weakness. He recalls Riddle's unique spell and how that still had a weak point. No matter how adapt at magic a mage might be, it still has its limits. Jack deduces that instead of trying to defeat the twins under the sea, they're better off trying to deal with the contract itself on the land. He's not happy about this though, it feels like they're playing just as dirty as they were. Ruggie tells Jack that his principals are good and all, but they're no match for Azul and the twins- even on land. Leona reminds them that they're dealing with scoundrels that deceive naive people and strip them of all they got. How is that playing fair? It shouldn't matter how they annul the contract, it still counts as a win.
Ruggie is impressed with this but Yuuta recalls when that same thought process caused Leona to overblot and ended with him in the infirmary. He doesn't think he learned from the experience at all. Leona tells them that he didn't regret any of it, he gave it his all in the end. Jack realizes that with the two days they have left they should focus on giving it their best. Yuuta agrees and the guys feel motivated once more. With dinner finished, Leona decides to leave. Grim is shocked, as he assumed that he would stay to help them. Leona walks away with Ruggie, stating that he gave them a hint. They should figure the rest of it out on their own. Grim accuses him of being heartless, and once the duo are alone Ruggie remarks on how unusual that was. Leona normally doesn't give out advice like that. He asks if he has a soft spot for those first-years, which Leona immediately denies. He's just putting them to work so that he might be able to figure out Azul's weaknesses without having to do anything.
Meanwhile, at Octavinelle, Jade is informing Azul that Yuuta and Grim have sought refuge at Savanaclaw. He admits that he wasn't really expecting that and goes quiet. Floyd asks if he should start squeezing them then, but Azul tells him its unnecessary. Jade asks why, as Leona could be troublesome to deal with. They would be better off striking first. Azul reasons that Leona is a lazy lion, he isn't the type of person to stick his neck out for others, or meddle in their affairs. Leona could be trouble, but it goes both ways. He finds it hard to believe that he would instigate a conflict with him for no reason. Jade agrees not to do anything unnecessary, although Floyd is a little disappointed. Azul entrusts them to continue their surveillance.
