Episode of Heartslabyul/Chapter 20

The twentieth chapter of Disney Twisted Wonderland The Comic -Episode of Heartslabyul- was published in Monthly G Fantasy October 2022 issue on September 16th, 2022.

This chapter covers the second half of "A Sad Little Child" and the first half of "Feelings Reconciled" (Episode 1 Chapter 25-26) from the game.

Summary

Young Riddle has so much fun with his new friends, until the day when his mother found out. She forbids him from seeing Trey and Chenya again. In the present, Riddle regains consciousness and returns back to normal.

Riddle continues to narrate his past. He had so much fun playing with Trey ad Chenya was so much. They taught him things he didn't know, and games he hadn't played; like playing cards, climbing trees and croquet. They taught him a lot. He began to slip out of his room every day during his one hour of independent study to hang out with Trey and Chenya.

One day, Riddle told them that he never had a strawberry tart before, because of his mother believing they are bad for his health. Trey and Chenya were surprised to hear this, and Trey suggests that Riddle come to his families place to try one. They run a cake shop, the very same one Riddle would walk past. Riddle becomes hesitant, since he doesn't want to make his mother angry. Trey reassures Riddle that having one slice can't hurt, remarking that if it was up to Chenya he'd scarf down a whole tart. They lead Riddle there, and he steps into the bakery for the first time. He was left in awe and bewilderment looking at the many sweets, and he is slightly startled when Trey's parents approach to politely greet him. Trey leads Riddle to his room to wait with Chenya, then heads off to get the tart. While waiting, he hears Trey's younger siblings talk to Trey about wanting tarts too. He asks them to return to their room for now and promises to cut them some later.

Trey returns to the room with a slice of strawberry tart for Riddle. To him, it sparkled brighter than any jewel every could. Riddle takes his first bite, his eyes sparkling with joy as he describes it as sweet and delicious. It's not like anything he's ever tasted before. With every bite, he became further entranced. But his joy was short-lived, because he lost track of time and his mother discovered that he left his bedroom. She quickly tracked him down and scolded him for abandoning his studies, and she put the blame on his new friends for leading him astray. Unknown to Riddle, Chenya and Trey followed them home to watch as she punishes him and forbids him from seeing them every again. Riddle was horrified and grabbed his mothers arm, trying to convince her that it was his own fault. He apologizes and promises that it won't happen again, but she coldly refuses to lighten up on him. He broke the rules, and now he has to pay for it. She shuts his window while telling him that from now on, she will keep a much closer eye on him.

After breaking the rules, Riddle's free time becomes shorter. He could only watch helplessly as his new friends left him behind, and they stopped visiting. This resulted in Riddle breaking ties with them, knowing that it couldn't be helped, and he vowed to never break another rule. He spent his remaining childhood studying non-stop with his mother's lessons, convinced that she must have always been right. But he wonders why his chest hurts so much when all he did was behave after that. All he wanted to do was eat a lot of tarts, if only for his birthday. He wanted to play outside, and make lots of friends.

The next scene shifts to the overblotted Riddle, who awakens in a dark place. He asks his mother what rule he should follow to get rid of his pain, and suddenly he trips on one of the books. A bunch fall on top of him, and he struggles to get up when he sees a doorknob with a keyhole. He reaches for the light coming from it and the blot begins to melt away.

Riddle hears Trey's voice and wakes up. He is confused to find Yuuken, Grim and Crowley at his side. Riddle turns around to see Trey, who responds to him as he reaches out to hold his hand.

• A scene where Overblot Riddle where he was buried in a pile of books, he attempts to reach the Doorknob does not occur in the game.
• Overblot Riddle's hand starts to change back to normal as the blot starts to melt away from the light.
• Riddle unconsciously holds Trey's hand does not occur in the game.
